Public Services

This department includes the Circulation, Reserves & Interlibrary Loan Desk, located at the entrance of the Gallucci-Cirio Library. This is where you can checkout and return library materials including Course Reserves and Interlibrary Loans, activate and update your library account, pay library fines and fees, request thesis binding, get general assistance, and more. The following policies apply to this department:

Reference

The department assists the University community, students, faculty, and staff in using the resources of the library and developing information literacy and research skills. Consistent with higher education philosophy and the Fitchburg State University Library mission statement, the Reference department commits itself to instructing students in research methods and in the use of indexes, catalogs and other instruments of information retrieval through its Reference services provided at the Research Help Desk and research consultations.

Instruction

The department assists the University community, students, faculty, and staff in developing information literacy and research skills. Consistent with higher education philosophy and the Fitchburg State University Library mission statement, the Instruction unit of the department commits itself to instructing students in research methods and in the use of indexes, catalogs and other instruments of information retrieval through its Instruction Programs.

This unit under the Library & Digital Leaning Technologies department is committed to developing online services and helping the library as a whole, as well as helping each of the library departments transform their services, to provide support and access to resources for the students, faculty and staff in the university's Distance Learning and Extended Campus communities.
