Digital newspapers: Access to The NY Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Wall Street Journal

The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library is pleased to provide the Fitchburg State University community online access to The New York Times through the New York Times Group Pass.

Through the Group Pass students, faculty, and staff can freely access The New York Times, including the NYT Education and International editions, through NYTimes.com and NYTimes mobile apps.

The Group Pass account also provides users with two different search tools to access archived historical articles:

Please note this subscription does not include e-reader editions, Premium Crosswords or The New York Times Crosswords apps.

Access

Follow these steps to activate your New York Times Group Pass:

  1. On campus (connected to our network) go to nytimes.com/grouppass.  If off campus, go to nytimesineducation.com/access-nyt
  2. Follow the prompts to create a free NYTimes.com account using your FSU emails address (either @student.fitchburgstate.edu or @fitchburgstate.edu). Note: If you already have an NYTimes.com account using your FSU email address, you may log in with those credentials.
  3. You have successfully claimed a Pass when you see the Start Your Access screen.
  4. Now you can enjoy seamless full access to the digital New York Times just by logging into your NYTimes.com account from any location, on or off campus. Note that you will have to re

If you have trouble activating your Group Pass, it could be because you have an existing NY Times account.  Please see the troubleshooting box below for assistance.

Troubleshooting

Existing Accounts

If you are an current NYTimes subscriber and wish to cancel or make changes to your subscription, contact NYT customer care at customercare@nytimes.com or 800-591-9233 or Help. Then, follow the process above to connect to the Fitchburg State University Group Pass. 

Expired Accounts

Group Pass accounts expire 364 days after being activated. However, that does not mean you've lost access. Here's how to renew your account:

  1. Navigate to nytimesineducation.com/access-nyt 
  2. Search for and select Fitchburg State University
  3. Follow the instructions for either on campus or off campusYou will then see: On campus click here and Off Campus click Go (you will need to login to school proxy). You will be redirected to the NYT welcome page.
  4. Click "Already have an account? Login here".
  5. Log in with existing NYT username/password. Then on the nytimes.com site it should say "Digital Subscriber" under your name.
