SEED LIBRARY
A seed library is an organization that shares seeds with the community. The basic idea is this: you take a packet of seeds, plant them, and let some of them go to maturity. By harvesting the seeds and donating them back to the library, the seed library continues and others can use the seeds to plant a garden the following year.
Seed libraries serve several purposes, including providing access to seeds to grow healthy foods and promoting biodiversity.
You can pick up your free seeds from the Seed Library near the main entrance of the Library. Seeds are organized alphabetically in a card catalog cabinet. Please take what you will realistically have time to plant and tend.
We encourage the community to save their seeds from their harvest! If you are able to do so, please consider donating them back to the seed library for others to plant the following season. This practice is encouraged, but not required!
To make a seed donation, please place seeds in the container located under the Seed Library card catalog cabinet. The donation box is labeled. Please include a note with any details you have about the seeds you are donating, including plant type, specific varieties, harvest date, any special details (organic, heirloom, etc.,) and a donor name -- anonymous donations are also fine. We are including these details in our available seeds spreadsheet.
