Started in 1999 by book artist, Judith A. Hoffberg, the Edible Book Festival is held annually on or around April 1st . To celebrate this event, individuals or groups are invited to submit edible creations based on the written word – a poem, short story, book, or graphic novel.
Here are examples of the types of creations you can make based on the written word.
Pun or Play on a Title - Grapes of Wrap Inspired by John Steinbeck’s novel, Grapes of Wrath
Literal Interpretation of a Title -The Missing Piece Inspired by Shel Silverstein’s poetry book, The Missing Piece
Descriptive : The Very Hungry Caterpillar Inspired by Eric Carle’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

1-2PM – Public viewing and voting (you can stop by anytime during this hour to view the entries and vote for your favorite one)
2:10PM – Winner is announced
2:10-3PM – Snack on the books
Don’t want to submit an entry? Stop by anyway and vote for your favorite creation. The individual or group whose entry receives the most votes will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Bookstore.
Ground Rules:
1.All Fitchburg State faculty, staff and students are welcome to submit an entry. You can submit an entry as an individual or as a team.
2.Entries must be made from mostly edible materials.
3.Entries should be able to hold their shape for approximately 2 hours during the viewing and voting. (i.e. creating something with ice cream may not be your best bet).

The Ruby Yacht of Omar by Nancy White. Inspired by The Rubaiyat by Omar Khayyam
