Using Zotero

Zotero is a free citation management tool.You can use Zotero to collect, manage and cite your research resources. You can also create collections/libraries for specific research projects, share data with collaborators, and generate bibliographies.

Export Citations from the Fitchburg State Traditional Catalog

1. Log into Zotero. Click on the group you want your citations to be added to.

2. After performing your search, click the Zotero Folder icon in your browser window. This is usually located on the right side of the address bar.

3. A Zotero pop up box should appear. Next to each book you want, click the checkbox next to it & click OK.

4. If you click on a search result, this should open the record for that specific item. You should be be able to click the Zotero Folder icon to export that single record automatically.

5. Any citations you add will populate the Zotero group that is currently selected in the Zotero window, but citations can be moved or copied to other groups afterwards.

If the Zotero Folder icon is unavailable:

Click on the book you want to add, and on right side of the page under actions click on the link named Export. When asked to choose an export format, choose the UTF-8 MARC option and select Click to Export.

The UTF-8 MARC file will now be found in the Downloads folder. From Zotero, find that folder and upload the correct file. It should immediately be added to the group you have previously selected.

If the Zotero Folder icon is unavailable:

You can click on the record, and try to add it from the database or catalog it's housed in. Find the corresponding directions for items that are either found in a database or in the tradtional catalog.
